The quiz was organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. The coverage of the competition
were Ozone Science, the Montreal Protocol and other related multilateral environmental
agreements and who’s who in the field of ozone layer protection. The
Montreal Protocol signed in September 16, 1987 is an international agreement
among 191 countries where they committed to gradually reduce and eventually
eliminate production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) that
destroy the earth’s protective ozone layer in the atmosphere and put
all living things in danger.
Medina and Manzanilla were chosen to represent the country through a national
online quiz conducted on May 28, 2007 organized by the Environmental Management
Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
