EMB Region 3 holds PCO Seminar, Introduces GFIS Project Activities and its Benefits

A three (3) day seminar organized by the EMB Region 3 in partnership with the Water Environment Association of the Philippines (WEAP) was held at the Century Resort Hotel, Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga last 20 -22 August 2008. It was attended by eighty two (82) participants composed of Pollution Control Officers (PCOs).

The seminar is one of the requirements for the participants’ accreditation as Pollution Control Officers pursuant to DENR Administrative Order No. 26. Engr. Elisa Dimaliwat, Technical Working Group member of the ICETT project from EMB Region 3 and one of the participants during the study tour in Japan gave a lecture on the project and its benefits. Engr. ICETT Holds First Invitation Program

The International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT) held its first invitation program to Japan last June 23 - 28, 2008. Select industry participants and members of the technical working group were privileged to witness CP and EE measures of Japanese industries that may help improve capabilities of their respective sectors.

EMB Starts Monitoring of Industries

As part of the Project Plan, EMB has started monitoring the progress of the participating industries in the implementation of their respective action plans specifically focused on cleaner production and energy efficiency.This activity will continue until January 2008 to enable the industries to assess significant improvements achieved through the project.

The action plans were developed through the assistance of the ICETT experts, EMB Technical Working Group and the local consultant.

 

 

EMB, ICETT Stage Workshop on Japan’s and Local Green Technologies

Japan’s  and local advanced technologies in conserving the environment were the highlight of the recent workshop on Green Framework of Innovative Strategy for Sustainable Consumption and Production (GFIS) held for  selected industries in Central Luzon, last August 7-9, 2007  at the Subic International Hotel. The activity brought together various experts from Japan as well as local environmental experts and representatives from industries to discuss green technologies that would help improve the performance of industries engaged in meat processing, power, pulp and paper, piggery/poulty and textile sectors in the region.

 

 

What is the Green Framework of Innovative Strategy (GFIS)
for Sustainable Consumption and Production

The Green Framework of Innovative Strategy for Sustainable Consumption and Production or GFIS is a DENR-EMB project being undertaken in collaboration with the International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer – Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (ICETT-METI), Japan. It is aimed to strengthen the implementation of environmental programs in the Philippines through training and technology transfer. It seeks to improve the performance of the industries, in the area of cleaner production and energy efficiency to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.


The project aims to improve environmental management and energy efficiency of industries in Region 3, and also to provide policy recommendations.

 

What is ICETT?

The International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT) is a quasi-government institution, under the guidance of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Japan. It implements a wide range of activities that contribute to the conservation of the global environment, including transfer of industrial pollution-control technology.

The ICETT carries out training and technical guidance, research and development, surveys and activities intending to promote information exchange and raise public awareness. Through these activities, the ICETT is able to promote the effective transfer of technology applicable to the prevailing conditions of a particular country.
