EEID 2005 Major Accomplishments

1.Support to Clean Air Initiatives

Initiated seminars on Bantay Tambutso sa Eskwela in different schools in the country
Initiated seminars on Bantay Tambutso sa Malls in different malls nationwide
Prepared promotional materials such as streamers, posters, stickers, caps and flyers for the Bantay Tambutso sa Malls at Eskwela nationwide
Assisted and coordinated the conduct of Free Vehicle Emission Testing in the different malls and schools nationwide
Coordinated the preparation of the National Air Quality Status Report (2003-2004)
Produced “Breathe Clean Air Module Series” (800 copies)
Produced posters on Linis Hangin (2000 copies)
Produced brochures on “Milestones in Implementing the Clean Air Act” (5000 copies)
Coordinated the conduct of two trainings of IEC Teams for the DENR Anti-Smoke Belching Program

2. Support to Clean Water Initiatives

Completed a 15-minute video documentary on the Clean Water Act
Produced a 60-seconder television commercial on clean water that was aired in the different television channels nationwide
Conducted a seminar on Communicating Water Quality Monitoring for the concerned personnel of EMB

3. Support to Solid Waste Management Initiatives

Produced Newsletters for the Solid Waste Reduction Master Plan (2000 copies)
Assisted in the conduct of a two-day Solid Waste Management Summit that was attended by about 300 representatives from schools, local government units, business sector, and NGOs nationwide
Assisted in monitoring about 58 schools in the Metro Manila in their implementation of their solid waste management programs in support for the Model Schools Awards that were given during the Solid Waste Management Summit
Coordinated the “Bawas Balot, Bawas Basura, Para sa Malinis na Estero Program in different markets nationwide
In Metro Manila entered into EMB Memorandum of Agreement with 17 markets from Makati, Quezon City, Manila and San Juan
Assisted in the conduct of a Coastal Clean Up in different esteros in the country

4. Support to Environmental Impact Assessment Initiatives

Conducted a seminar on Environmental Impact Assessment to the Board Members of the local government of Taguig
Coordinated the preparation of script for the video documentary on Environmental Impact Statement system with the Philippine Information Agency

5. Support to the Environmental Management System (EMS) Initiatives

Initiated the conduct of the contest on the “Best Performing and Most Organized EMB-EMS Program Team for 2005”
Coordinated the conduct of the following EMS related-seminars:
      a. 12 seminars for EMB employees
      b. 2 seminars for EMB supplies and contractors towards Green Procurement
      c. 1 seminar for EMB janitors and security guards
      d. a seminar each on :
            * Water Conservation
            * Energy Management
            * Use of Biodiesel, and Preventive Maintenance of Vehicles for Cleaner Air and Cost Savings
            * Chemical Policies and Management
            * Solid Waste Management
With the UP Open University, produced EMS twin drop banners on the EMB’s EMS programs, in five strategic sites at the EMB, and a billboard beside the EMB AQMTC Building

6. Support to Cross-cutting Environmental Management/Education concerns of EMB

Preparation of media releases which saw print in national and regional newspapers
Conducted the 10th National Senior Educators’ Conference in Environmental Protection and Management in Tagaytay City
Continuously updated the National Environmental Education Action Plan for Sustainable Development
Conducted four batches of trainings for teachers in various universities and colleges nationwide for the Civic Welfare Training Service of the National Service Training Program
Conducted monitoring of different colleges and universities in the country regarding their integration of the Environment and Natural Resources Modules in the Civic Welfare Training Programs
Produced Newsletter for Tertiary Environmental Education (2000 copies)
Undertook several environmental exhibitions for various celebrations such as the Earth Day, Philippine Environment Month, National Disability Month, Consumer Welfare Month, Clean Air Month, among others
With the UP Open University, conducted trainings for selected EMB Central and Regional Environmental Education and Information Sections on the following:
      a. Public Speaking
      b. Technical Writing
      c. Video Production

7. Support to Initiatives in Addressing Climate Change, and Clean Development Mechanism

Conducted workshops for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Secretariat together with the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies of Japan
Conducted a one-day seminar on Greenhouse Gas Protocol at the Dusit Hotel
Conducted a two-day National Capacity Self-Assessment Action Planning Workshop in Subic
Initiated the signing of the Implementing Arrangement for the Study on Capacity Building to promote CDM with the Japanese International Cooperative Agency
Lobbied for the designation of the DENR as the Designated National Authority for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
Coordinated the multi-stakeholder consultation processes for the signing of the DENR Administrative Order No. 2005-17 which elaborates the guidelines and procedures for the screening and evaluation of CDM project activities to be implemented in the country
Reviewed various CDM projects for processing
Produced instructional calendar on “Beat the Heat! Let’s Work for a Safer Climate”
